White outdoor wall lights

White outdoor wall lights have a different quality to black or grey — against a rendered or painted wall they feel fresh and architectural, and in the evening the warm light from a white fitting creates a softer glow than darker finishes. These are not imported pressed-metal alternatives. Every fitting here is hand-spun from marine-grade aluminium by J D Burford in the UK, powder-coated in chalk white, and rated IP44 for outdoor use.

The chalk white finish is a warm, slightly soft white — more considered than bright white, which is why it suits both traditional and contemporary exteriors. It looks particularly good against white render, painted stone, and timber cladding.

White outdoor wall lights

Six chalk white outdoor wall lights are available, all hand-spun aluminium, all IP44 rated, and all with the same E27 fitting and 5-year guarantee. The difference is in shade size and character.

Burford wall light — chalk white

The Burford is the larger outdoor wall light in the range — a 23cm diameter hand-spun aluminium shade on a straight arm bracket. The generous size suits house walls, barn conversions, and gates where a smaller fitting would look out of proportion. The straight arm mounts closer to the wall than the swan-neck Fisherman’s, which makes it a cleaner, more contemporary choice for modern properties.

Specifications: 23cm diameter, 25cm high, 29cm overhang. IP44, E27. Corner bracket and PIR sensor options available. 5-year guarantee.

Barn wall light — chalk white

The Barn light is the compact version — 13cm diameter, shorter projection from the wall, and a tidier fit for smaller properties, stable blocks, and positions where the Burford’s 29cm overhang would feel excessive. Same hand-spun aluminium construction, same IP44 rating, same 5-year guarantee.

Specifications: 13cm diameter, 27cm high, 22cm overhang. IP44, E27. Corner bracket and PIR sensor options available.

Fisherman’s wall lights — chalk white

The Fisherman’s range has four styles in chalk white, all with the characteristic swan-neck bracket that positions the shade away from the wall for a distinctive coastal character. The curved arm casts a more dramatic shadow than a straight bracket and creates a three-dimensional quality on the wall surface.

All four styles are available in chalk white:

Standard Fisherman’s (26cm, from £115) — the classic dome on a swan-neck bracket. Right for cottages, terraces, and gardens where the original coastal character is the brief. Pairs naturally with the standard pendant version for covered porches.

Large Fisherman’s (32cm, from £139) — the same dome scaled up for high walls, barn conversions, and larger properties where the 26cm would look undersized. Most customers who go large are glad they did.

Harbour (32cm, £129.99) — similar scale to the Large but with a cleaner, more architectural shade. The right choice for contemporary coastal homes where the full ornate character of the standard Fisherman’s would feel too traditional.

Quayside (26cm, £149) — the most distinctive style: a caged glass design that casts stronger shadow patterns than the dome and has a more industrial-nautical character. For those who want something bolder.

White outdoor ceiling lights for porches and covered areas

All four Fisherman’s styles are also available as pendant ceiling versions — the same hand-spun chalk white shade hanging from a ceiling rose rather than projecting from a wall bracket. These are IP44 rated and designed to match the wall lights, making it straightforward to use the same shade design and colour throughout a porch, covered walkway, or outdoor room.

Three pendant sizes are available in chalk white:

Standard Fisherman’s pendant (26cm) — for standard porch heights where a 32cm shade would feel too large. Works directly alongside the Standard wall light for a matched scheme.

Large Fisherman’s pendant (32cm) — for generous porch heights and covered areas where a smaller pendant would be lost. Particularly effective in barn porches and covered walkways.

Quayside pendant (26cm) — the caged glass version in pendant format. For the same bold industrial character as the Quayside wall light, overhead.

Why chalk white for outdoor lighting

Chalk white is a warm, slightly muted white — not the cool bright white of a painted wall or a standard powder-coat. The warmth in the finish means it reads as considered and deliberate rather than utilitarian, and it holds its appearance better over time than brighter whites which can look stark or grubby as the finish ages.

It works best against:

White or pale render — the fitting blends with the wall surface and only the shade form registers, which creates an elegant effect particularly with the Fisherman’s swan-neck curve.

Painted stone or brick — chalk white against a cream or off-white painted surface has a consistency that doesn’t draw the eye away from the building’s character.

Timber cladding — chalk white has enough warmth to complement natural wood tones without creating harsh contrast.

For darker walls or render, satin black or slate grey will create stronger contrast. For a natural coastal character, seaspray blue is the more distinctive choice.

Practical details

IP44 rating: All exterior fittings are rated IP44 — suitable for exposed outdoor installation in UK weather. IP44 provides protection against rain from all angles and is the standard rating for residential outdoor wall lights. It is suitable for coastal locations.

Bulb fitting: All fittings use E27 (standard large screw). Bulbs are not supplied — choose a warm white LED (2700K, 6-9W for standard sizes, 9-11W for large) for the most comfortable outdoor light. Filament-style LED bulbs look particularly good through the glass domes of the Fisherman’s range.

Corner bracket option: All Burford, Barn, and Fisherman’s wall lights can be fitted with a colour-matched corner bracket, allowing installation on the corner of a wall where a standard flat-wall fitting would not work. The corner bracket illuminates in two directions simultaneously.

PIR sensor option: Standalone PIR sensors are available in chalk white, controlling one or multiple lights from a single sensor. The separate sensor approach means you can add motion detection to any light without additional wiring to the fitting itself.

Multi-buy discount: 5% discount automatically applied at checkout when purchasing 2 or more lights; 8% for 5 or more. For larger projects, contact us for a project quote.

5-year guarantee: All UK-made fittings carry a 5-year guarantee against faulty workmanship. In over 20 years of selling these lights, not a single claim.

Installation: Outdoor electrical installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician. All fittings come with an 11cm diameter backplate; mounting fixings are not supplied as requirements vary by wall type.

Frequently asked questions

Are white outdoor wall lights harder to keep clean than darker finishes?

They show dirt more visibly than slate grey or black, but the powder-coated chalk white finish wipes clean easily with a damp cloth. In coastal locations an occasional rinse with fresh water removes salt spray deposits. The finish does not peel or chip, so maintenance is minimal.

Can I use white outdoor wall lights in a coastal location?

Yes — aluminium and powder-coated finish are specifically designed for coastal use. Chalk white holds its appearance well in most conditions. If you are in a very exposed location with frequent salt spray, slate grey is slightly more forgiving in terms of visible deposits, but chalk white is fully suitable for coastal installation.

Can I match wall and ceiling lights in chalk white?

Yes — all four Fisherman’s styles are available as both wall and pendant ceiling lights in the same chalk white finish, making it straightforward to create a matched scheme across a porch or covered area.

What is the difference between the Burford and the Fisherman’s wall light?

The Burford has a straight arm and a wider, more open shade — it mounts closer to the wall and has a cleaner, more contemporary character. The Fisherman’s wall lights have a curved swan-neck bracket that projects the shade further from the wall and creates a more distinctive coastal silhouette. Both are hand-spun in the UK by the same manufacturer. See the full wall lights guide for a detailed comparison.

Are these lights available in other colours?

Yes — all styles are available in seaspray blue, traditional cream, slate grey, and satin matt black in addition to chalk white. The full colour range is shown on individual product pages.
